With EFL Cup and Colchester United disappointment looming large at Tottenham Hotspur following the midweek clash, it was back to Premier League action on Saturday as we welcomed Southampton to White Hart Lane.
It was a lively opening 45 minutes and summer signing Tanguy Ndombele opened the scoring in the 24th minute, but the game turned against us at that point with Serge Aurier seeing red on the half hour mark for two bookable offences and Danny Ings capitalised on an error to restore parity. Harry Kane had got our noses back in front though ahead of the half time break, so 2-1 it was.
Having erred in the first half, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made up for it in the second period with two stops in particular (Yoshida, Ward-Prowse) and we ended up taking all three points as neither side could add to their goal tally.
